DrawingFigures for the Beginner

The Usual disclaimer...I am a beginner myself ;) So don't take anything I put here asthe 'way' to do things, this is just how I've learned, by teachingmyself. This is a beginning tutorial because I'm using a verybasic pose and structure, it can get much more in depth.

Step One: Understucture andthe Figure

First off, I'll say thatI notice that most people that draw, tend to draw their own sexbetter. Girls draw females better, and guys draw males better. It could be because we're just familiar with our own bodies, orthe types of things we read and watch. Not saying this is alwaysthe case tho. Anyway, there are a few main body differences betweena male and a female. Body Size, Men are larger then women, noduh, huh? Their shoulders are wider, arms and legs are wider, muscles will be more pronounced. Women in turn, are more slender, with narrow shoulders, arms, legs.. you also don't want to givethem a whole lot of muscle definition, if you want to keep themfeminine looking.

Hereis where we start. A circle for the head and your line of action, aka, line you can use as the spine ;) It's pretty important becausethat is what your going to be basing the rest of your understuctureoff of. It also has this tendancy to give you characters moreenergy, and direction, and more realistic poses.

Nowe add the rest of the part, stating with the large Triangle forthe Torso, smaller one for the hips and legs. Basically, yourdrawing a stick man! Notice that there are circles of differentsizes at each of the major joints on our guy here.

Thispicture takes you to the point you need to draw a sucessful figure.Putting the skin and muscle on. Remembering the difference betweenmales and females. Including hips, Guys hips are smaller in proportionto his shoulders, then a womans. This is the point where you canadd hair, clothes...
