DrawingFigures for the Beginner

Step Two: Making your man...Manly!

Muscles, thats the singlething I hear people complain about most then trying to draw aguy. Why? Cause they have no clue exactly what they look like, unless they are looking straight at a pic, and even then it canbe difficult. Below is going to be your typical superhero-guymuscles.

Nowwe take out 'filled in' sketch and add a little more detail, features, hair, beginning muscle structure... The Arms and legs can sortof do themselves, it's the torso that most people get stuck on...Oh, and scan the rough. That way you can print it out later ifyou need to send it somewhere. I do that with all of my pics, but I personally like having nice finished stuff up for peopleto look at from time to time ;)

Thisis a simplified form of where you need to put the circles to makea mans Torso. The six lil circles are his six pack *giggle* Thetwo at the top that are in the shape of a V are his neck muscles.

Now,a little bit of clean-up. This is just erasing some of the lines, adding a few other little ones, and making others darker. In otherwords, you break up the circles so the aren't as round anymore, and viola, you have your Manly chest! And actually, if your doingcartoons-like drawings, you'll want to have even LESS detail.Cause it's easier to draw.

Now, all of these shouldn'ttake you too long, with scanning included, it took me about 5minutes to get to this point in my character, which is good. Becausespeed is a nice thing to have. If you know the anatomy, and youknow how to make a character 'work' the way you want it too, youcan spend more time on giving him/her personality.
