Well... first we startwith paper. Ideally, you'd want to be using Bristol board. It's100 lb. paper, very nice to use. However, it's very expensive. So if you can't get that, just about any other paper is good.Computer paper is about the worst you could use. For the pictureI'm demonstrating with, I think I used 70 lb. paper, which isthe standard Sketch pad weight. For the color pencils... Prismacolorsare really the only brand I recommend, however expensive theyare. Crayola's would be the second. You can get a box of fiftyat Walmart pretty cheap. All of the other brands I've expirimentedwith, just turned out to be too waxy, or had other problems. Youpencil sketch should be light, I sometimes find it helpful toink first when I'm using paper that isn't Bristol Board.
Ournext step is to take the first clolor we had for each area andlightly ad a full layer over everything to blend the colors abit more, and to make it easier to do the next step. I would notsuggest leaving this as a finished project, because it doesn'thave any 'body'
Nowwe can take our next step and find a color thats between our firstcolor and our highlighting color. If you can't find one, thenyour first color will work best. HGere is where I ignore everythingI've read about color pencilling and press pretty hard while coloring,I try to make the color look somewhat solid here. this is anotherplace where you 'can' stop, but if I've gone this far, I usuallylike to do the next step as well :)
I addmy final shading to make it look more round. when I do the finalshading, I use complimentary colors. They are Red/Green, Blue/Orange,Purple/Yellow. I used red to shade the green areas.. Blue to sharethe brown in the hair, light blue to shade the beak, ect... Itisn't 'too' noticible online, but it helps make the coloring lookfantastic RL. Make sure to add some highlighting with the whitecolor pencil, and re-inking the picture of extra sharpness isup to you. To see my finished picture, go Here.
